Calicraft takes its inspiration from California’s materials, places, and people. They aim to produce goods that combine ingenuity with intent-goods that push the limits of beer, wine, and spirits. Whether using local ingredients such as anise hyssop and wine pomace, innovative partnerships with restaurants and wine producers, or creating a whole new genre of beer-Calicraft seeks to address the question: What if California made beer?
With a California mentality, Calicraft makes drinks-influenced by the people and places of their home state. They began brewing and winemaking at home in their garages and backyards … and in their beverages, they bring that sense of experimentation and transparency.
Blaine Landberg founded Calicraft in 2012. In July 2016 they opened our Taproom in Walnut Creek. Their focus has always been to create unique drinks that blur the lines between categories.
Local breweries have been opening in the East Bay — making them enjoyable spots to enjoy an alcoholic beverage while hanging out in a comfortable atmosphere with friends.
This brewery is unique in that it attracts local parents with kids, particularly in the summer months. Apparently, there are fewer tots in the winter.
For some people, this is a plus and for others, a minus so is prepared!
The outdoor patio seating (covered in the colder months) and the picnic tables that can handle large parties, however, make this a fun spot to hang out and drink outdoors.
If you want to sit inside, they also have a spacious interior with plenty of seating.
Plus, the beer, the wine, and the spritzers are all fantastic!
The drinks are inexpensive too! Having a decent pint of beer for 5 bucks is rare and this place has one to boot that is a bronze medal winner!
From light notes to more of your heavier IPAs, Calicraft has a wide selection of beers. Parking is on-site for a large number of visitors, they have a decent size lot. You can also catch local food trucks/cooks, set up in the parking lot from time to time, so you can grab a bite with your beer. Here the seating is perfect, sitting outside and inside, and getting a few seats at their counter.
This is a perfect spot for sitting outdoors, playing games, talking with friends, and tasting beers. There was a group when we went so they were extra noisy but it’s big enough that you can get away from the noise if you need to. There are grassy areas around but it would be good if they had more deliberately closed off part of the parking lot.
Usually, there’s even a food truck outside. On a very hot sunny day, it is good to sit at the large long tables inside out of the heat in air conditioning. Within, there are TVs to watch football, too.
There are about 10 beers on the tap. Before you buy, they’re happy to give you a taste of something on tap. This is a pleasant community addition!
