About the City Center of Concord, California

The neighborhood of Concord City Center is very unique because it has one of the largest proportions of one, two, or no bedroom real estate in any neighborhood in America. Most neighbourhoods have a combination of small to large home or apartment sizes, but the concentration of studios and other small living spaces here is at near-record heights. The zip code of Ygnacio Valley is 94520, and the main streets of the neighborhood are Clayton Road, Concord Avenue and Willow Pass Road.

Things to Do in City Center

City Center is blessed with an abundance of fun attractions for residents and visitors to enjoy. Here’s a short list of our favorites:

Markham Regional Arboretum | 1202 La Vista Avenue, Concord, California 94521, United States

In 1981, with a small group of Concord people who enjoyed gardens, the Markham Regional Arboretum Society formed. Their aim was to convert their property, a portion of which Ira and Bea Markham had sold to the City of Concord in 1966, into a beautiful arboretum.

They decided to fulfill Markham’s dream of leaving all the people of the area to enjoy a legacy of natural beauty. It was a vision of a place full of distinctive and fascinating trees, shrubs, and plants from all over the globe that flourish in our inland, yet marine-influenced environment, hot days and cool summer nights, with cold, frosty winter nights.

Today, less than 20 blocks from downtown Concord, Markham Nature Park and Arboretum is a spot of quiet beauty. Most of it, with its main entrance at the southern end of La Vista Avenue, is still in its natural condition, with only slightly tamed vegetation. Through it flows Shade-dappled Galindo Creek.

Todos Santos Plaza | 2175 Willow Pass Road, Concord, California 94520, United States

The historic 2.5-acre downtown plaza of Todos Santos is Concord’s neighborhood meeting spot. The plaza was listed by the American Planning Association as one of three Great Places in California in 2018.

A variety of events are hosted by Todos Santos Plaza, such as summer concerts, a farmers’ market, and others during the year. It’s a perfect place to attend an outdoor family concert or just enjoy a lunchtime walk in the California sun.

A lush public park occupies the plaza’s center for those finding a spot to play or kick back. Dotted with picnic tables, benches and a playground for youngsters, the plaza boasts a medley of trees and free Wi-Fi across the plaza. Todos Santos Plaza is a must-visit in Concord, whether you’re traveling for a weekend, commuting for business or just passing by.

Living in City Center

Residents of City Center are blessed to live in an area full of nature while also being quite close to city life.  There is never a shortage of coffee shops, parks or shopping centers to enjoy within a five-minute drive of City Center. Residents are also able to enjoy a rich spiritual life at the following houses of worship:

New Hope Church | 2120 Olivera Court, Concord, California 94520, United States

On November 1, 2015, Pastor Joe and Teena Skiles became pastors of New Hope Church and are honoured to continue this great church’s legacy. When two acres were purchased on Olivera Road in 1957 to create a place of worship for a group of people who loved God and loved their city, what began as a small group meeting in a storefront in Pittsburg gradually emerged into the originally called Full Gospel Church of Concord.

New Hope Church has been a crucial part of Contra Costa County for the past six decades. In the eastern bay area, the same passion for God and for the city still exists and grows. They believe that together we are stronger and we create healthy relationships, healthy families, and healthy communities together. New Hope Church is a neighborhood church, so they are diverse and promote worship together for all generations and ethnicities.

Calvary Apostolic Church of Concord | 3425 Concord Boulevard, Concord, California 94519, United States

As a small group of people who came together out of a common desire to make an impact on our planet, they began with humble beginnings: a group of people living out the reality of God’s Word by modeling grace and loving and serving others. They call themselves a “Church Without Walls” even though their path included meeting in a physical church building, since they believe that they are the church.

It is their mission to put together everyone from their culture to know Jesus better. They believe like a greater force is calling us. They should not be dismayed, just as Joshua 1:9 states, for the Lord our Father is with us wherever they go. It’s literally going out, spreading the gospel, loving the broken, extending grace, and demonstrating the love of Christ.

Parks, Schools & Other Points of Interest in City Center

City Center is also home to some amazing parks, schools, public libraries and schools for its citizens to enjoy.  These facilities are all world-class, beautifully maintained and clean so residents of surrounding communities often visit to enjoy them.  Here’s a short list all located in City Center

Newhall Community Park | 1351 Newhall Parkway, Concord, California 94521, United States

Newhall Community Park, along Galindo Creek east of Treat Boulevard, is 126 acres. South of Clayton Road or from Turtle Creek Road, access is from Newhall Parkway. The park meanders across Galindo Creek.

The real park itself is just a darling. There’s a wide field of grass and a dog pit that’s ideal for dog roaming. The ducks just like to stick out on the lawn, so you can see them wandering around. Right in the center of the park sits Galindo Creek. If a good shady spot near the creek can be found, do it! So peaceful are the views of the creek. It is also a good picnic area. There’s a small playground, too which makes this park great for kids. It’s such a wonderful all-around local park that has so much to offer.
